Verses for Leaders
Bible Verses for Leaders
Scripture for business, community and home. A 6 minute read.
Every believer leads somewhere. At work, in the community, at home, and in the quiet places no one sees.
These verses are grouped by where you lead. Each one comes with a short word on what it asks of you. Read one a day, or find the lane you are in right now.
The Foundation: How Jesus Defines Leadership
"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." (Mark 10:45, NIV)
Jesus turned leadership upside down. The leader is measured by what he gives, not by what he is given.
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8, NIV)
Justice, mercy and humility. If a leadership decision cannot pass those three, it is not ready.
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves" (Philippians 2:3, NIV).
Ambition is not the problem. Selfish ambition is. Servant leaders aim high for the sake of others.
For Business Leaders
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters" (Colossians 3:23, NIV).
Your real Boss is not on the org chart. Excellent work is an act of worship before it is a business result.
"Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." (Proverbs 16:3, NIV)
Plan carefully, then hand the plan to God. The order matters. Commitment comes before the plan is established, not after.
"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much." (Luke 16:10, NIV)
Integrity is not built in the big deal. It is built in the expense report and the small promise no one would notice you broke.
"Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." (Proverbs 15:22, NIV)
The leader who decides alone decides poorly. Build a circle of people who will tell you the truth.

For Community Leaders
"Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant" (Matthew 20:26, NIV).
In the community, people follow the one who serves first. Titles open doors. Service keeps them open.
"Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, watching over them" (1 Peter 5:2, NIV), "not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock" (1 Peter 5:3, NIV).
Shepherds lead from among the sheep, not above them. Your example will teach more than your announcements.
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." (Galatians 6:9, NIV)
Volunteer work is slow and often thankless. The harvest is promised, but it comes on God's schedule.
"For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers." (Proverbs 11:14, NIV)
A community is too heavy for one set of shoulders. Share the guidance, and the group grows stronger than any one leader.

For Home Leaders
"But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD" (Joshua 24:15, NIV).
Joshua decided for his house before the nation decided for itself. Leading at home starts with a settled choice you make out loud.
"Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." (Ephesians 6:4, NIV)
The verse names two ways to fail: pushing too hard and teaching too little. Training happens in ordinary moments, patiently, again and again.
"Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it." (Proverbs 22:6, NIV)
The early years set the direction. What your children watch you love, they learn to love.

For the Everyday Believer
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." (James 1:5, NIV)
You do not need a title to need wisdom. God gives it without making you feel foolish for asking.
"Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." (Psalm 139:23-24, NIV)
Self-leadership comes first. The leader who will not be searched by God cannot be trusted with others.
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." (1 Timothy 4:12, NIV)
Influence does not wait for age or position. Every believer leads by example, whether they mean to or not.
